The creat scheme of connecting the European and 4nercan shores by a tele graphic cable, has at last been consumma ted. Taught by the failure, and 4he im posture whiclr'sought to conceal it, of ti e first effort, and cautioned by Mr Field's dis iatcli that "England and America are qgxin united by telegraph," we have felt aomewhat cautious in accepting first re ports as conclusive, lest they shonld de ceive us now as before, when the ocean telegraph was either still-born or died at the birth. Hut we presume all reserve may be safely dismissed, and the truly ex traordinary enterprise ranked as a . perma nent success, and as, will! out doubt, the foremost wouder of the world. The value of this means of communica tion can scarcely be over-estimated. The world on both sides the Atlantic is emin ently active, politically, Commercially and iuteilectually, toaactive to wait for news to pass between the two shores, which all the aids of steam were nearly two weeks apart. Proceeding in ignorance of the mu tant condition of affairs on each aide of the sea, it very frequently resulted that much was done which had to be undone after wards, whiie many of the mistakes were irreparable. These sources of loss and ia jrtry are now at an taaa. Tirr ntpro tnter cLange of ideas, and the prompt dissemi nation of valuable information of every de scription, which the Ocean telegraph will secure, are a less tangible, out not jess lm fey Otis magnificent triumph of jmuou rt.arr4 ngacmna entejmitoe. nail the teieeranh. and we juMToews which it brtugB 1'he mt war which lately beatrode Ceu tope, is laid, and Austria and Prussia have again shaken bauds. This was' preceded by battles that have been fought since the last of which the steamers brought us the news. In these last encounters, fortune was kind to the Austrians, both on land and on thaea, with the Prussians and with the Italians.
